Grand Seiko builds its reputation on details most brands ignore, and the SBGW283 is a quiet showcase of all of them. It belongs to the Elegance Collection and expresses Kishun, the turn from spring into early summer, in a pale blue dial inspired by the skies over Shizukuishi in Iwate where the mechanical watches are made. The case is drawn from the very first Grand Seiko of 1960, a slim 37.3mm in steel finished with Zaratsu polishing to a distortion-free mirror, and the box-shaped sapphire crystal recreates the look of old acrylic without the fragility. The dauphine hands and faceted indexes catch light in the play of light and shadow that defines the house style. Inside, visible through the sapphire caseback, is the hand-wound caliber 9S64 with a full 72-hour reserve, hand-assembled and adjusted in Japan. On its blue crocodile strap it is a purist's dress watch, one of the most refined pieces in the Grand Seiko catalog, and it comes with its original box and papers, dated 2023.
